| Who is Charlie Brown??? Like so many of the great soul singers from the south, Huntsville Alabama's Charlie Brown developed his soulful style growing up singing in the church choir in his hometown of Talladega, Alabama. As a child he has fond memories of listening to his mother's old 45's of classic R&B and Gospel crooners from the 60's and 70's. The singer developed a deep appreciation and admiration for such great soul entertainers as The Temptations, The O'Jays, and Lionel Richey & The Commodores. And his mother's collection of gospel music from some of the greats like The Williams Brothers and The Soul Stirrers kept his spiritual roots solid. In fact, his early introduction to the late blues legend, Johnny Taylor, was of Taylor's beautiful lead on the Soul Stirrer's classic, "The Love of God" After graduating from Alabama A&M University, where he attended on a marching band scholarship, the artist settled into a business career in the Huntsville area. But he was never far from his first love, music, as he occasionally wrote songs and sung lead vocals for several groups in the area. In 1999 he assembled three young ladies as backup singers and formed a singing group, The Quiet Storm. They built a local following performing covers of Blues and R&B hits in small clubs and private parties. He continues to do shows today performing at his best for the 30-40 year old adult audience, the "Grown Folks". "Grown Folks' Party" is a culmination of all the Blues, Gospel and R&B influences on Charlie Brown. The songs from the CD tell stories of love, life, joy, and pain from his unique point of view. Feel this music as you hear it and then understand why they used to call it "soul" music. |
